I’m writing to invite you to join me and others from across the healthcare community at the 2019 Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Annual Meeting, being held September 18-20 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. As a member of PCORI’s Advisory Panel on Patient Engagement, I know firsthand that PCORI’s staff is planning a valuable and compelling event.

The theme of this year’s Annual Meeting, PCORI’s fifth, is Making a Difference: Using Patient-Centered Research Results in the Real World. It will spotlight results from dozens of studies that speak to PCORI’s progress in funding and disseminating the results of research to determine which care approaches work best, for whom, and under what circumstances, with a focus on outcomes important to patients.

There is no registration fee for the meeting, which will feature a rich lineup of compelling speakers. That starts with the keynoters—two Boston pediatricians who co-founded the Progeria Research Foundation after their son was diagnosed with that rare and fatal disease, and two of the leaders in the field of partnering with communities to make health research and practice more useful, relevant and equitable.

Equally exciting is the list of topics that the plenary and breakout sessions will address, with many talks co-presented by researchers and patient or other stakeholder partners. Here’s a sampling:

  • Practical Approaches to Personalized Medicine
  • Effectively Putting New Evidence into Practice
  • How Engagement is Making Research More Useful
  • The Future of Patient-Centered Outcomes Research
  • Improving Healthcare Equity
  • The Potential and Challenges for Telehealth to Improve Access to Care
  • Navigating Complex Choices: Shared Decision Making Across the Care Continuum
  • Improving Chronic Pain Management through Evidence-Based Nonpharmacological Treatment
  • Reducing the Burden of Chronic Conditions on Patients, Families, and the Healthcare System
  • A Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Approach to Prevention
  • Improving Care and Outcomes for Patients within the Medicaid System

I hope you’ll visit the PCORI Annual Meeting website to learn more and to register. In the event you or your colleagues can’t attend in person, the keynotes and plenary sessions will be webcast live and the breakout sessions recorded for posting within a couple of days.

Thanks for helping to spread the word about PCORI’s Annual Meeting. I look forward to seeing you in September.
