Halloween is just around the corner, and this year the Celiac Disease Foundation is proud to partner again with our friends at Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) to promote the Teal Pumpkin Project – and we hope you’ll join us!
This important campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to offer non-food trinkets and toys in a separate bowl this Halloween, in an effort to make this holiday safer, more enjoyable, and more inclusive for everyone affected by celiac disease, food allergies, intolerances, and other conditions, so all trick-or-treaters can have some fun!
Throughout our community, many children affected by celiac disease look forward to putting on their costumes and heading out to collect treats with their family and friends. Unfortunately, with that excitement also comes the ever-present concern of gluten lurking in so many treats that are commonly offered – because, as we know, it’s just … everywhere.
It’s easy for children with celiac disease to feel left out of social events that include food, and it can feel stressful, and sometimes embarrassing, to be looking at labels and asking questions about ingredients while also trying to fully participate in a fun activity with friends.
By joining with us to promote the Teal Pumpkin Project, and by choosing to place a teal pumpkin on your doorstep, you show that you offer both treats and non-food trinkets that are safe for all trick-or-treaters to enjoy!
