Celiac Disease Foundation Board Member Gregory Frasca accepting a Proclamation in New Jersey
Each May, the Celiac Disease Foundation leads a nationwide effort to increase awareness for the more than 3 million Americans living with celiac disease by partnering with advocates across the country to request official proclamations from state and local governments declaring May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month.
Thanks to the dedication of our amazing advocates, we once again submitted proclamation requests in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Thank you to our outstanding advocates across the country – none of this is possible without you!
We are proud to share that a record 30 proclamations were issued, with 29 states and the District of Columbia officially recognizing May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month – the most proclamations issued in a single year to date! These proclamations acknowledge the seriousness of this chronic autoimmune disease and highlight the importance of early diagnosis, research, and support for those affected.
These proclamations are more than symbolic. They are powerful public acknowledgments that celiac disease deserves attention. They amplify the voices of patients and families, bring greater awareness to the challenges of maintaining a strict gluten-free diet, and help build momentum for improved access to diagnosis, care, and safe gluten-free food.
As we look back on Celiac Disease Awareness Month, we’re deeply grateful to every advocate who submitted a request, every state leader who supported this effort, and everyone in the community who helped raise awareness. Together, we’re making celiac disease a national priority, one proclamation at a time.
