Every May, the Celiac Disease Foundation leads a powerful national movement to raise awareness for the more than 3 million Americans living with celiac disease. One of the most impactful ways we make celiac disease visible is by working with advocates across the country to request official proclamations from state and local governments declaring May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month.

This year, we set an ambitious goal: submit proclamation requests in all 50 states. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our community of advocates, we did just that and the response was extraordinary.

To our thousands of advocates across the country, we are so thankful for your work to raise awareness – this would not have happened without YOU!

We are proud to share that 27 states and the District of Columbia officially declared May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month in 2025, recognizing the seriousness of this chronic autoimmune disease and the importance of early diagnosis, research, and support for those affected.

These proclamations are more than just pieces of paper. They are critical, public acknowledgments that celiac disease matters. They amplify the voices of patients and families. They bring much needed attention to the challenges of managing a strict gluten-free diet. And they help drive momentum for improved access to diagnosis, care, and gluten-free food.

To celebrate this incredible achievement, we created a special video reel showcasing every proclamation we received. From coast to coast, the impact of your advocacy is visible and inspiring. Take a look here.

We’re deeply grateful to every advocate who submitted a request, to the state leaders who listened, and to the communities who stood behind this effort. Together, we are making celiac disease a national priority, one proclamation at a time.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Sign up to be a Celiac Disease Foundation Advocate and help us drive change where it matters most – and please stay tuned later this year for details on our 2026 campaign!
