Have you ever been asked to join a clinical trial for celiac disease? Have you considered saying yes? What would make you feel safe, informed, and motivated to participate? These are the questions at the heart of a groundbreaking global survey led by the Celiac Disease Foundation in partnership with a leading pharmaceutical company. As the landscape of clinical research for celiac disease continues to evolve, understanding the perspectives of patients across different countries is essential to shaping trials that are accessible, equitable, and responsive to the needs of those they are designed to help.
Developed in partnership with a leading pharmaceutical company, this initiative spanned five regions—Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the United Kingdom—to gather insights from people with celiac disease on what matters most to them when considering clinical trial participation. Conducting this type of research is important because it helps to identify and address the barriers to participation that different populations may be facing.
This achievement would not have been possible without the generous collaboration and support of our international partners. We extend our deepest gratitude to Coeliac UK, the Polish Coeliac Society, and the Spanish Federation of Coeliac Associations (FACE), whose commitment to advancing celiac disease research was instrumental in recruiting participants from their local communities.
“This global collaboration shows the true power of patient advocacy groups uniting around a common goal,” said Marilyn G. Geller, Chief Executive of the Celiac Disease Foundation. “When we work together across countries and cultures, we amplify the patient voice and ensure that progress toward better treatments reflects the real needs and experiences of those living with celiac disease.”
Help Drive the Future of Celiac Disease Research
The insights shared through this global survey underscore the importance of patient participation in shaping the future of celiac disease treatments. You can also be a part of that progress.
By joining iCureCeliac, the Celiac Disease Foundation’s patient-powered registry, you help researchers better understand the real-life impact of celiac disease. Whether you’re sharing your own journey or your child’s, your experiences provide critical data that drive research forward—paving the way for improved diagnostics, better treatments, and one day, a cure. More than 17,000 individuals have already joined the effort, working together to solve celiac disease.
