Halloween is just around the corner, and this year the Celiac Disease Foundation is proud to partner again with our friends at Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) to promote the Teal Pumpkin Project, which aims to make this holiday safer for everyone affected by celiac disease, food allergies, intolerances, and other conditions.

The Celiac Disease Foundation on May 22 awarded its first Celiac Disease Policy Leadership Award to U.S. Representative Betty McCollum (MN-04) for her distinguished service and advocacy on behalf of the celiac disease patient community. Among other initiatives, she established the bipartisan Congressional Celiac Disease Caucus, which has significantly increased federal recognition of celiac disease.

On May 20 the Disease Foundation hosted its third annual award reception at Digestive Disease Week in Washington, D.C. From prestigious global research prizes to inaugural student and policy leadership awards, the event spotlighted the extraordinary contributions of individuals dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by celiac disease.

Joining research studies and clinical trials is the only way to help scientists better understand this autoimmune disease and ultimately find a cure for celiac disease. This spring, I joined one of those important trials, funded by the Foundation, to help researchers with the development of a revolutionary new screening tool for celiac disease.

This spring, the Celiac Disease Foundation was a title sponsor of the inaugural Asian Pacific Celiac Disease Symposium (APCDS) 2024. The conference drew professionals, researchers, and thought leaders from 16 countries to address key challenges in diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease in the Asia Pacific region.

The Celiac Disease Foundation is proud to share that for the second year in a row, access to funding for celiac disease research is being made available through the U.S. DOD Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (DOD-CDMRP)Peer Review Medical Research Program.

The Celiac Disease Foundation has joined forces with the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Foundation to introduce two groundbreaking awards specifically designed to advance celiac disease research. These initiatives aim to foster novel research endeavors, emphasizing the importance for medical professionals to delve into the complexities of this lifelong autoimmune condition. 

As we continue our journey toward advancing awareness and understanding of celiac disease, it is crucial that we reflect on health equity and the persistent clinical disparities within our community—so that together we can confront these factors and dismantle barriers hindering access to care and support.
