Federal Research Funding Opportunities
The Celiac Disease Foundation is committed to advancing research that accelerates diagnosis, improves treatment options, and ultimately leads to a cure for celiac disease. A key part of this mission is advocating for and supporting increased federal investment in celiac disease research.
The federal government is the largest source of funding for biomedical research in the United States, providing critical support for studies that help uncover the causes of celiac disease, develop therapies beyond the gluten-free diet, and improve quality of life for those affected.
Federal Funding for Celiac Disease Research
The Foundation actively supports efforts to strengthen and expand federal research funding for celiac disease through agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Through sustained advocacy and collaboration with Congressional partners, federal funding for celiac disease research has increased in recent years, supporting important progress in understanding disease mechanisms, improving diagnostics, and exploring therapeutic options.
Because federal research funding levels are determined annually, continued advocacy is essential to ensuring sustained and expanded investment in this field.
Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP)
The Foundation also supports inclusion of celiac disease within the Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP), which funds research that improves the health and well-being of military families, veterans, service members, and the broader public.
Although celiac disease is a disqualifying condition for military service, it is increasingly recognized among military families and veterans. Inclusion in PRMRP has helped expand awareness of celiac disease as a condition worthy of federal research investment and has supported innovative studies relevant to disease prevention and treatment.
