Dental products and orthodontic appliances are generally considered low risk for people with celiac disease. Gluten must be ingested to cause a celiac disease reaction, and the amount of dental products that may be swallowed during normal use is typically very small. Limited independent testing of dental products has found gluten levels below 20 ppm. There is no evidence to suggest that dental products are a significant source of gluten exposure.
In May we shared celiac disease research highlights from Digestive Disease Week, including research on the genetic risk factors of celiac disease.
