Your Guide to Earning the Crossed Grain Trademark

The Crossed Grain Trademark certification process is designed with your business in mind. Our streamlined process ensures minimal disruption to your operations while delivering maximum value.  

  • Application: Visit our Contact Us page to fill out our application form, or contact  janie.magill@celiac.org .
  • Documentation: Provide necessary documents, including ingredient lists and manufacturing processes, to the Celiac Disease Foundation. 
  • Audit*: Undergo an audit to the AOECS Standard for Gluten-Free Foods completed by a third-party auditor. All testing must be conducted by an ISO 17025 accredited lab. The test method must be the R5 Elisa Mendez or R5 Competitive method. Gluten analysis must meet the applicable regulatory standard based on the product’s market: 
    • For products sold in the United States, testing must meet the US FDA gluten-free standard (less than 20ppm).  
    • For products sold in Canada, testing must meet the Health Canada gluten-free standard (20ppm or less). 
  • Approval: Submit audit and gluten analysis certificates to the Celiac Disease Foundation for contract signing and Crossed Grain Trademark license issue. 
  • Packaging Verification: Product packaging verified and approved by the Celiac Disease Foundation. 
  • Annual Renewal: Undergo annual audit to AOECS Standard for Gluten-Free Foods by a third-party auditor and submit certificates to the Celiac Disease Foundation. 

*Audit process covers raw materials & ingredients, cleaning & handling, product testing, storage, packaging, staff & factory checks, and complaints & recalls.
