On Friday, June 12, 2026, the Celiac Disease Foundation and the Society for the Study of Celiac Disease hosted the 2026 National Celiac Disease Policy Symposium, “From Diagnosis to Coverage: Aligning Policy for Celiac Disease Therapeutics.” This virtual symposium was the first step in getting doctors, diagnostic experts, regulators, and health insurance companies on the same page so that once new celiac disease treatments are approved, there’s a clear and fair process for deciding who qualifies and how those treatments get covered.

Developed jointly by AGA and the Society for the Study of Celiac Disease (SSCD), this guideline addresses a key clinical question in the management of asymptomatic celiac disease: whether a gluten-free diet, compared with a gluten-containing or unrestricted diet, benefits adults and children with no symptoms. The guideline provides evidence-based recommendations to support more personalized care for those with asymptomatic celiac disease.

If passed, the Celiac Safety Act (H.R. 9048) would expand the list of major food allergens to cover all gluten-containing grains, not just wheat, requiring clear labeling on all food products that contain these grains.
For the 3 million Americans living with celiac disease (and anyone who eats gluten-free), this legislation would improve food labeling in the U.S., strengthening transparency and helping Americans make safe food choices with confidence.
