Thank you for your interest in the Virtual Celiac Symptoms Study! Compensation is available for this study based on survey completion. Below you will find information about how to qualify for payment, when payments will be made, and how payments will be received if you and/or your child participate in this study.

Qualifying for Payment

By the end of the study, participants will be eligible to be paid up to $500.00 to compensate them for their time answering questionnaires as a study participant. There are 7 payment milestones in total over the 12-week study period (see below).

To qualify for payment for the 1st milestone and to continue participation in the study, participants must complete the following during Week 1 of the study:

  • At least 70% of the daily questionnaires
  • 100% of the weekly and monthly questionnaires

To qualify for payment for all other milestones (milestones 2-7), participants must complete the following:

  • At least 70% of the daily and weekly questionnaires
  • At least 70% of the monthly questionnaires

Payment Schedule

Qualified participants will be paid after each milestone, and payments will be made within 10 calendar days after each milestone described below:

*Upon completion of at least 70% of the questionnaires during the prior period.

**All of the initial questionnaires (questionnaires available on day 1) must be completed to remain eligible for the study and eligible for payment. If participants do not complete all of the required questionnaires to meet the first milestone, they will not be able to continue to participate in the study and will be unenrolled.

Reimbursement Process

To receive payment, participants will be issued a virtual ClinCard® from Greenphire, a clinical trial financial management company working on behalf of Takeda. A virtual ClinCard is a digital representation of a debit card that funds are loaded onto and can be used at the participant’s discretion. The virtual ClinCard can be used for online and over-the-phone purchases or funds may be transferred to a bank account. The virtual ClinCard may also be paired to an Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay mobile wallet and used at contactless readers anywhere Visa cards are accepted.

A virtual ClinCard will be activated after a participant qualifies for the 1st milestone. The participant will receive an email containing a link to access the virtual card online after the successful verification of the participant’s identity. Greenphire’s terms of use and conditions may apply.

Funds will be approved and loaded onto the virtual ClinCard within 10 calendar days of a qualifying milestone.

To assign and load funds onto a virtual ClinCard after a participant completes the 1st milestone, the Celiac Disease Foundation will provide Greenphire with the participant’s Subject ID, name, address, date of birth, and email address as entered into their iQualifyCeliac account.

Frequently Asked Questions

If my child qualifies for payment, will they be paid directly?

No. If your child qualifies for payment, you will be issued a virtual ClinCard on their behalf. The ClinCard will be associated with your child’s email address, but it will be registered under your name, address, and date of birth.

If my child and I both participate, will we each receive our own virtual ClinCard?

If you and your child both participate and qualify for payment, you will receive two separate ClinCard virtual cards. Your ClinCard will be associated with your email address, and your child’s ClinCard will be associated with their email address. However, both virtual cards will be registered with your (adult’s) name, address, and date of birth.

Can my child's ClinCard be transferred to them when they turn 18?

ClinCard virtual cards are nontransferable. However, funds on a virtual ClinCard may be transferred to an adult’s bank account at any time.

I qualified for payment, but I haven't received my virtual ClinCard/funds yet. What should I do?

Please allow 10 calendar days after qualifying for a milestone payment for your virtual ClinCard/funds to be issued. If more than 10 days have passed since the milestone period ended, please contact the study team at the Celiac Disease Foundation by emailing virtualstudy@celiac.org.

If I miss a payment milestone, will I be eligible for payment for future milestones?

All of the initial questionnaires (available on day 1) must be completed to remain eligible for the study and to qualify for payment. If you and/or your child do not complete all of the required questionnaires for the first milestone, you and/or your child will not be able to continue to participate in the study and will be unenrolled.

If you and/or your child do not qualify for payment in any of the remaining milestones (2-7), you and/or your child may continue to participate. You and/or your child may be eligible for other payments upon qualifying for future milestones, but total study compensation will be affected.
