On November 9, 2015, Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) sent a letter to Congressman Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. This letter urged the FDA to increase the FY16 budget to $2.8 billion dollars, which is $200 million more than the FY15 sequester-constrained budget, and $50 million more than the Administration budget request. The FDA is charged with protecting consumers against impure, unsafe, and fraudulently labeled foods (except meat and poultry), drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and more. One could argue that this is one of the most important jobs of the government. For the celiac disease community, there is no argument. We need a strong FDA to help advance the search for therapeutic treatments and cures for celiac disease. We need a strong FDA to put teeth into the gluten-free labeling act enforcement. If you agree, we encourage you to join our campaign for increased funding. Contact your representative here.
